About Geary
I am a patriot. I proudly served my country in the U.S. Marine Corps earning an Honorable Discharge and the rank of Corporal (E-4). I feel that my background in the Marine Corps helps me to better understand what would be required of an individual who will serve as commander-in-chief of the national and state guards. It was the foundation to which my beliefs are anchored. I was proud to serve then and I am proud to serve now.
When I returned home to Nebraska I started my own business from the ground up. I did this with good old fashioned blood, sweat and tears. I know what it takes to be successful in the business world. I know what it is like to make ends meet in a stressful economy. I feel that for a person to say he is prepared to take care of a state budget, they should have a feel for what small business goes through every day.
I have taught martial arts to students of all ages for 15 years. In addition I've exposed thousands of people in Eastern Nebraska to my art, including police officers, doctors and three mayors. I enjoy teaching and know what it is like to work with young minds. In a job where most of the budget deals with education, I think a working knowledge of the process is invaluable.
I am proud to be a contributing part of the community. I have appeared on local television shows presenting self-defense tips for those who can not afford classes. I have been actively involved in the community by volunteering my time to teach self-defense to the disabled, providing free safety awareness classes to young children to increase self-discipline, and raising money for children with cancer. I have taught college seminars to help participants gain self-confidence by learning simple, effective techniques to protect themselves. I also work with kids who come from tough economic and social backgrounds. I see life in Nebraska in ways that many people don’t, and I plan to make a difference.
I am focused and goal oriented. On September 1, 2006 I was promoted to 10th Degree Black Belt (the highest level of Black Belt and Grand Master). The promotion made me the second youngest in the world and the youngest person in the United States ever to achieve this rank. I have also been awarded a Bachelor of Martial Arts and the high titles of Grand Master, Soke (Head of family) and Professor. I have also been recognized and awarded rank or promotions by ten Grand Masters/Organizations across the United States. I have been inducted into four martial arts Hall of Fames for “Master Instructor of the Year,” “School of the Year,” “Founder and Grand Master of the Year” and “Outstanding Contribution to The Martial Arts Grand Master” (Board certified category), with the additional honored recognition of Ambassador to the Martial Arts. I consider these honors as measures of my dedication and focus. They don’t define who I am, but they are a show of my character and abilities.
I believe in the “Good Life”. Nebraska is a great place to live and work. In my spare time I am an amateur photographer and enjoy writing poems (some of which have been published). Whether in work or play I have shown dedication, determination and drive to both be the best in everything and help instill those qualities of distinction in others. This commitment translates for my fellow Nebraskans as devotion to ensure excellence in service and quality of life through action.
